When buying a
Diamond, a person is making a long term investment. Like any
investment, one must learn as much as possible to ensure they
are buying what is right for them. This is extremely important
when buying a diamond, since many diamonds look exactly alike.
When choosing a diamond, you must understand the 4 most
important characteristics of a diamond, also referred to as the
4 “C”; Carat, Cut,
Color,
Clarity.
Carat
Carat is the standard Unit of weight for
Diamonds. When all other factors are equal, the more a diamond
weighs, the more valuable it will be.
Diamond Cut
Also referred to as the make of a diamond, the
cut refers to the proportions and finish of a diamond
Diamond Color
Diamonds come in every color in the rainbow. All
though diamonds are thought to be colorless, all diamonds
contain some light brown or yellow color to them. The more faint
and near colorless, the more expensive the diamond is. Diamonds
also come in colors such as Red and Pink and are referred to as
Fancy Color Diamonds.
Diamond Clarity
Clarity refers to the number of blemishes a
diamond has. Nearly all diamonds have imperfections in them,
referred to as inclusions. The fewer the inclusions, the higher
more valuable the diamond is.
Before you
make your diamond purchase, make sure to learn as much as you
can about the entire process The naked eye cannot
determine the difference between a high quality diamond and a
poor one. You must understand how the measurements are
determined to valuing diamonds and distinguishing between the
various types, styles, weights, colors and clarity.
A diamonds
quality is never a result of one factor. It is always a
combination of all 4 "C" as noted above. Make sure that
you pay attention to detain and inspect each diamond you wish to
purchase very carefully; looking for proper proportions and
dimensions. Try and have an independent diamond consultant
guide you throughout this process. A diamond consultant
can verify a diamonds weight, color and clarity easing the worry
and tension that is involved in making major purchases.
Every diamond
must come with a diamond certificate which entitles you to the
ownership and authenticity of the diamond you purchase.
Most importantly, your diamond certificate values your stone.
