How to care for your diamond

Diamonds can easily become dirty through normal activities, hand lotions, and even beauty products such as for hair spray. Even mixing diamonds with other jewelry can damage and possibly ruin a diamond. It’s important to follow these rules when taking care of a diamond.

- When cleaning a diamond you should use a soft cloth and wash it with any cleanser the jeweler provided. If no cleanser was provided, you can use mild liquid detergent, Ivory is a good example.

- If dirt is found on your diamond a simple, soft brush can be used to clean off the dirt. Make sure to check the bristles of the brush; you don’t want anything too hard that could cause the diamond to be scratched.

- When cleaning the diamond, make sure to use warm water to rinse off the cleanser.

- Any type of cloth that is lint-free can be used to dry off the diamond.

- Cleaning a ring with a diamond should be done very carefully. Make sure to not use any type of product that could ruin the metal loop.

- When cleaning a diamond ring that is surrounded by other gems, make sure to use a cleaner that won’t damage the gems around the diamond.

- Wearing gloves while cleaning a diamond is recommended.

- Keep your jewelry in a box that is softly padded.
