Carat

The weight of a diamond has the greatest impact on its value. The weight of a diamond is measured in Carats and is symbolized by the letters “ct”.  Pricing of a Diamond is also based per carat unit.  One carat is equal to two tenths of a gram. Carats can also be measured in points, where one carat is equal to 100 points. For Example,  .50 carat diamond is equal to 50 carat points, which means the diamond is a ˝ carat diamond.

Since a diamonds value is based on it weight, size is of very little importance. Two of the exact same size diamonds can have different weights and therefore different values.
