Jewelry
By

Robbins When a man proposes to a
woman, he offers her a ring, preferably a diamond ring. Why a
ring – a piece of jewelry and not something else? Because a
piece of jewelry is valuable and presenting it signifies the
preciousness of the fiancée in the eyes of the fiancé. An
engagement ring no matter the stone or the metal that was used
to create this everlasting sign of beauty or love in a
fashionable piece of jewelry will be worn for years to come.
In short jewelry stands for – beauty, financial strength and
a token of love. The emperors, their queens, the rich people,
the aristocrats of the past and their huge collection of jewelry
reaffirm this.
Since the early times, women as well as men have loved the
idea of adorning themselves with jewelry. In ancient times, fine
cut shells were used to create jewelry, now jewelry is made of
gold, diamond, silver, gemstone, pearl and platinum that is
finding its way to the treasure chests of women’s cabinets.
Jewelry adds to the beauty of a person and accentuates
his/her financial status. Rings, bracelets, armlets, pendants,
necklaces, chokers, earrings, nose studs and anklets are the
varieties of jewelry that is preferred by today’s women. The
jewelry pieces may be made up of any of the metals like gold,
silver or platinum and may be studded with diamonds and other
gems. The crowns, tiaras and waist belts worn by the kings and
rich people are jewelry that’s hardly used these days except for
ceremonial purposes. Designing of jewelry is a big business now
and millions of people are employed in this industry all over
the world.
Jewelry for men is confined to rings, necklaces, bracelets
and watches. While men may prefer to wear thicker gold chains
with simple designs women would like their necklaces to be
intricately designed. Some men pierce their ears and wear an
earring. These rings too are mostly plain in design in
comparison to women’s.
Whatever the gender, the fascination with jewelry continues.
